Resistance vs Flow
Flow is a word that is tied in with spiritual concepts, and I think
I know why. One of the biggest steps forward for me
when I was first learning to meditate was the concept of resistance
vs flow. This is a pretty simple concept when
you get it, you might already be aware of it, but if your not,
I
guarantee this concept will have a massive benefit on your
meditation. When you are trying to still your mind, your not doing
it right ! because trying implies resistance. and
what you resist persists. so when you notice a thought come up,
don't resist the thought, instead let it flow by peripherally. be
aware of it's existence, but let it pass by peripherally. if the
thought is a sound, let it express, allow it
to say what it wants to say, but don't attribute any extra meaning
to it. this can be hard to explain but an example would
be if the sound was a bunch of words, you would allow yourself to
hear the words, but you wouldn't know what the words where, you
hear but don't interpret, see but don't interpret. and then let the
impression pas by you. I find that when you try to block a thought,
it just wants to come in even more ! know what I mean ? so let
them express, and notice them peripherally without getting stuck
into them, then they will usually be happy to move along
comfortably.
